Mood Boards

Good morning my dears! Today I’ve rounded up some of the things that have been hanging out on my wish list – I am daydreaming about beach houses and summer homes a lot lately, so these are all goodies that would be right at home by the sea. The theme for this mood board started with the vintage US Navy china below – it’s the kind actually used by officers out at sea in the ’40′s, and I am dying to get some now! Enjoy! :)

A. Vintage Tolix chair | B. Jess LC print | C. Toast “Oleron” quilt | D. Jo Malone Verbenas of Provence | E. Chance striped top | F. Vintage 1940s US Navy china | G. Toast “Anatolian” striped towels | H. Vintage wooden bowl | I. Lantern Moon rice basket | J. Platinum leather Baggu | K. Feather tray | L. Handmade bread board | M. Braided leather bracelet | N. Ocean photography by Drea Frost | O. White “Sundial” ottoman | P. Bottle opener

As you can see, I have been drawn to blues and whites lately; they remind me of photos of the Greek Islands (where I’d love to go someday…). All of those crisp stripes and rugged nautical goods seem to be calling for a bit of the shimmer of gold and platinum, so I couldn’t help throwing in that buttery-soft leather bag and the Jess LC print I’ve been pining for. I think I would wear that Chance striped top and little leather bracelet all summer long…add a spritz or two of Jo Malone’s Verbenas of Provence, and I’d be in heaven!

I hope you all had a lovely Independence Day! xo Laura

Happy Friday, dear friends! I went to visit Geninne’s art blog the other day to see what she has been up to lately, and oh my, she has lots of good stuff up her sleeve. For those of you who don’t know, Geninne D. Zlatkis is an amazing artist, you can find her work here and here. Geninne has a wonderful way with her home and studio as well, and I was completely gobsmacked by the mini-studio makeover she recently shared. Oh, just look:

Yowza, right? That painted cabinet, the airy space, the natural wood, the art, the collections from nature, it’s all so perfectly curated it made my heart go pitter pat! I immediately knew I wanted to translate this into a room. I wanted to use that moody blue, plus natural wood, a bit of silver, and of course art, too. So here it it, studio to room…

1. Filigree sphere pendant light | 2. “Salt Water Cure” art print | 3. English garden bench | 4. Petrified wood bookends | 5. Tree stump side table | 6. “Cyanobird” pillow (by Geninne) | 7. Wynn slipcovered sofa | 8. Ponsenby cream owl | 9. Napa valley candelabra | 10. Linen cushion | 11. Arden coffee table | 12. Craspedia cluster | 13. Awash rug

I had no idea that Geninne offered pillows now (see no.6 above), and of course now I really want one! Before I go, let’s just drool over one more picture of Geninne’s lovely studio space, shall we?

I adore all of the small details and treasures Geninne has collected, from handmade softies to perfect wooden tape dispensers, old books, twine – somehow she makes everything look intentional and lovely, even if it is just the supplies she needs to work. Such an inspiration, don’t you agree?

Be sure to visit Geninne on her blog and say hi, and enjoy your weekends! xo Laura

p.s., thanks so much to those of you who have been chiming in on this post, it really means the world to me!

Happy new week, dearies! I admit I have fallen off the clutter-clearing wagon, and I’ll have to put my Throw Out 50 Things project on hold for another few weeks, I hope you don’t mind. Instead, I have a new mood board to share with you! It began with that beaded and fringed light below, which I immediately thought would be fun in a kitchen. I find that kitchens tend to be a bit neglected, decorating-wise, which is kind of sad because a kitchen has the potential to be just as interesting and comfy as a living room – don’t you think? So, I set out to build a comfy room around that one cool light, with a few different places to sit and relax, and here is where it led me…

I would paint the walls gray and use a crisp geometric rug (can you believe that’s an outdoor rug? Perfect for a kitchen!) on the floor. An intricate tile mosaic backsplash I think would be amazing behind that classic gooseneck faucet, and the seating area would be centered under the beaded chandelier. I would hang the oversize surf art (that photo is 55 inches square!) above a breakfast bar, with a few of those rope-wrapped bar stools tucked underneath, and the petite white lamp tucked onto the counter beside a stack of cookbooks. I tried to balance the bohemian flair with classic, refined elements, and I think the result is a room you can really hang out in, but is also chic enough to entertain.

Here are the sources:

What do you think? I’d love to hear. :) xo Laura

In The Mood For…

in Mood Boards

Good day my sweets! I thought I would do something a bit different today and create a mood board including several of my latest Pinterest finds. I feel the first chill of winter in the air today, so this mood board includes a few treats to enjoy while cozying up and entertaining friends at home.

  1. Black bow flats, dark nails, and a bold ring. Via Emmy on Pinterest, pinned from Dustjacket Attic.
  2. Chunky knit blanket. Via Janet Crosby on Pinterest, pinned from here.
  3. Pomp & Plumage Boutonniere. Found via Kae Zherebnenko on Pinterest.
  4. This hair color + style. Via Marion P on Pinterest.
  5. This cool wine rack. Via Amy Feezor on Pinterest.
  6. This scrumptious toffee…found via biz owner Sarah Tweet on Pinterest. : )

I am fighting the temptation to dye my hair that shade of red…I know I couldn’t deal with the upkeep, but I love it! Well, enjoy your day, my dears, and stay cozy wherever you might be today! xo Laura

p.s. – I tried my hardest to find the original source for numbers 1 & 2, but I can’t! If you can help, please leave a link in the comments. Thank you!

Happy Monday, my friends! Today I have something fun and a bit different for you – this is a mood board I put together as part of Seattle decorator Maggie Rose’s Lamps Plus link party. I’ve been dying to redecorate my bedroom, so this was total wish-fulfillment for me. I went for a super cheerful scheme using this gorgeous headboard as a jumping-off point. Click on the image below to see it full-size & enjoy!

  1. The Pondicherry headboard covered in Mustard/Putty Diamond fabric, from Serena & Lily.
  2. Weathered brass swing arm wall lamps from Lamps Plus.
  3. DwellStudio Chinoiserie duvet set and pillow.
  4. Cat Girl print from Irena Sophia.
  5. Baby Fox print from Sharon Montrose.
  6. Clothbound Penguin Classics from Anthropologie.
  7. The Jensen chair from DwellStudio.
  8. White Wood Stool side table from West Elm.
  9. Vintage 1960′s bird wall art from Little Byrd Vintage.
  10. Feathers print by United Thread.

I would love to have swing-arm lamps in my bedroom – they would save on bedside table space, and the ones I chose above look so crisp and handsome, don’t you agree? Then of course I had to add some art that makes me smile, a comfy chair to curl up in and read, and that bedding…I’ve been drooling over that DwellStudio bedding forever! What do you think? Please chime in below and let me know! xo Laura
