Domino Magazine is Back!

Oh, you guys. It’s really true: Domino Magazine is BACK! Like, really back. They are not just rehashing old content like they did last year in their “special” issues; nope, they have a new editor-in-chief (it’s Michelle Adams, woot!) and will be publishing the mag quarterly with all new content. There is a brand new Domino Magazine website that looks great, and — this is new — you can now shop for practically any item featured in the magazine right on the website. For any other publication, I might think that seemed like pushy marketing, but with Domino it makes sense to me. Domino, from day one, was about the democratization of design. Giving us ordinary design-obsessed folks access to the products, and ideas, that designers use and love. Pulling back the curtain, so to speak.

As soon as I heard the news, I literally ran right out to hunt down a copy. That’s it, above! I’ve read it from cover to cover several times through now, and while a few of the pieces did not blow me away, overall it looks like it will still be a really top-notch magazine. As cheesy as it may sound, I’ve felt a little down ever since Domino shut its doors all of those years ago, and while some smaller, independent (and mostly online) mags have stepped up, the print market has continued to be sorely lacking a star. I’m sure I’m not the only one who saved every single issue of the “old” Domino…right?!

welcome back domino

I shared just a couple of my favorite shots from the issue — I especially loved the makeover of the office of the editor-in-chief of Lucky Magazine, Lauren McGraff’s apartment, and the cocktail party feature. But you know what I think is the funniest? The first thing my hubby said when he saw the cover was, “Oh look, the barefoot hostesses of Domino are back!” :) We always joked about how the lady on the cover always always was barefoot at home. It can’t be an accident, right? To me, it says, we are on the same level; kicking back and enjoying being at home.

Have you seen a copy of Domino yet? If so, what did you think?
