My Massive Home To-Do List

Over the weekend, I realized that the running home to-do list I’ve been keeping in my head has been getting a little out of control: time to get something on (virtual) paper! The following projects are ones I hope to get to ideally within the next year, though I know that realistically (budget- and time-wise) there will be things we will need to skip. But it’s a place to start! My idea is to reference this list each month and set a goal or two in each area outlined below — projects, organizing, and decorating. When I am short on funds, I can always pick more from the organizing list, or tackle a low-cost DIY from the projects list. If I do a few things each month, I should be able to have all of this done by the end of next summer! Here we go…

Projects:

  • Paint porch
  • Remove vinyl from porch railings (can this be done?)
  • Paint front door
  • Put on fox door knocker
  • Replace & repair porch lights
  • Paint Bixby’s bedroom furniture
  • Paint bedrooms
  • Paint bottom hall stairwell
  • Make slipcover for polka dot chair
  • Move & hang new dining room light fixture
  • Stain basement coffee table a darker hue
  • Cover craft table with oilcloth
  • Move my office to basement
  • Drill holes for cords in media center
  • Hang fabric to hide unfinished wall behind basement bookcase
  • Finish landscaping front yard
  • Create garden paths in backyard
  • Repair driveway
  • Paint over brass fireplace hardware
  • Put laundry room door on tracks
  • New roof — !

Decorate:

  • Outdoor rugs
  • Porch planters
  • Patio planters
  • Patio umbrella
  • New house numbers
  • Kitchen chalkboard
  • Wall-mounted magnetic knife holder
  • New tea kettle + Chemex coffee pot
  • Wood cutting board
  • Entry furniture — ??
  • Play table + chairs for Bix
  • Mirror over mantel
  • Living room rugs (layered?)
  • Art, photo prints, and frames
  • Couch pillows and throw
  • Additional living room lighting — ??
  • Curtains and rods for bedroom
  • New duvet cover/coverlet and shams
  • Basket or tray for top of washer

Organize:

  • Clothes closets
  • Expedit shelves and bins
  • Bixby’s toy closet
  • Dressers
  • Cabinet by front door
  • Pantry
  • Kitchen cupboards and drawers
  • Closet by back door
  • Bottom of stairs closet
  • Craft cupboard
  • Media center
  • “Deep” storage closet
  • Outdoor tools

Whew. I feel better just getting that out there! I’m curious: do you have a lengthy mental list of home to-dos? Or is it just me? xo Laura

p.s. — I’ll come back here periodically and cross things off my list…because that’s the best part, right!?

Oh gosh I can relate to this. Yes! We are constantly writing lists of everything we want to do around the house. As long as I feel like I’m accomplishing things on a fairly regular basis, I can do without the lists – they can overwhelm me. But it does feel nice to check things off! Good luck with all this!

We have a list this long for every room in our house! Although I think it will take us much longer than a year to get it all done!

Try putting all your tasks on a helper app and see how wonderful it feels.
I’m using 24me and I’m sorting my tasks by labels and it helps me keep organized and more importantly, relives the stress.

It can be really daunting with a massive to do list like that but it is the best feeling to tick them off 1 by 1 as you work through them!
