Saturday Crafternoon 01.26.13

Hip, hip, hooray! I did it! My very first Saturday Crafternoon. Can I just tell you how great it felt to get my hands in a bit of paint?

It felt wonderful.

Never mind the fact that I forgot to pick up the extra paint colors I wanted, couldn’t find a real brush and used Bixby’s toddler-tastic easel brush, or got frozen out of the basement work area and had to set up shop on the dining room table. Nope, none of that mattered a lick. Because I was making something. Using Mati Rose’s lovely book as a guide, I began by building up a few luscious layers of color on a wooden board. Oh yes, this is only the beginning. I am already looking forward to next weekend, when I will be adding more layers to the same piece, with a trip to the art store first for a few additional supplies. Painting with scratchy brush meant for chunky little toddler fists is not exactly ideal ;)

I think what was so exciting to me about this time was that I was actually spending it on something I really wanted to do for me. Just because. Nearly always when I have a minute “free” I spend it working, answering email, or (cough) blogging (cough cough). In the evenings, when I would have a bit more time, I feel too wiped out from my day to do anything but read a book or watch Downton…not that any of you would argue with that!

Long story short, after this first experiment, I am really, really glad I’ve made this commitment, and I do hope you consider joining in and getting your feet wet with some creative time. Even if you don’t think of yourself as a creative type, I believe we all have our own ways of being creative, and perhaps it’s just that you haven’t found your niche yet. Maybe it’s writing, or building things, or baking. Whatever it is, go out there and do it – you won’t regret it!

The next Saturday Crafternoon linkup will be Monday, February 4. For those of you who decided to join in this first week (yay hooray!!), you can link up below. It’s really easy; here’s how:

  • Click on the “Add Your Link” button
  • Copy in the url of your blog post, flickr set, or Instagram photo
  • Give your link a name (I’d call mine “Laura @ Lolalina – Saturday Crafternoon”)
  • Add your email address. This will not be visible, it’s just to send you a confirmation email that your link was added.

YEs, Laura! I too am excited for you and your creative challenge. Its so easy to get distracted by all that needs to get done instead of taking time for the things that speak to to and deepen our hearts.
Thanks for this! It inspired my own little creative challenge.
