Hello my dear ones! And Merry Christmas! The Christmas spirit has been at work around here, busily crafting and baking and making our days shine a bit brighter. I only wish that I could reach out and grab all of you reading these words, all of my family and friends flung across the globe, and pull you in close for a big Christmas hug, hand you a cup of steaming hot tea or cocoa and wrap you in a cozy blanket on my couch for present-opening and merry-making. Sigh. But for now, I will content myself with sharing these small corners of my home with you at Christmastime. Well, mostly corners of Bixby’s room, since I did promise to give a bigger peek…
He has been loving the chalkboard wall in his new room (we switched rooms with him – this used to be our bedroom); sometimes asking me to draw pictures for him, and sometimes going to town himself, like I caught him doing here. He even pulled in a dining room chair to help continue his artwork up high (ahem). I moved the book banner to the other side of the room, and instead hung a length of jute twine with art and snowflakes clipped to it with mini clothespins.
On the other side of the room is Bixby’s new “big boy bed” which he loves so much…especially with his new hand-knit winter blanket on top made with love by his Nana for a Christmas gift. Also on the bed is Heather Bear, the bear my Mom (aka Nana) sewed for me when I was a little girl. I had tons of pretty fabric scraps laying around, so I finally put them to good use as art, stretched in embroidery hoops and hung in a cluster on the wall.
Another special item in Bixby’s new room is the antique rocking chair – it was Bixby’s Great Grandpa’s rocker when he was a little boy! I feel so honored that Bixby gets to use it now. And as a cheap thrill, I had to scoop up one of these at Target (I loved it so much I also had to feature it here); it’s perfect for storing soft toys, and Bix loves carting it all around the house…and sometimes sitting in it, too. :)
Last week we made a silly little gingerbread “forest” for our mantel – Bix was my helper, and let me tell you, baking and decorating with royal icing (which is basically like cement) with a toddler is no easy feat! Still, we had a ball. And now, I am off to savor the rest of my Christmas day, and I hope you do the same, and hold your dear ones extra tight. xo Laura
