Moroccan Style + Elle Deco France

I came across the Muskelil website recently, and came away feeling so inspired and energized. Run by Valentina Pilia and Cassandra Karinsky, two friends who met while traveling and working in Marrakesh, Muskelil is both a shop and home for the pair’s interior styling business.

Valentina and Cassandra have such a great vision, so it’s no wonder their work graces magazines like Elle Deco France. Luckily for us, they also offer a well-curated collection of special objects and carpets through their website. In fact, it was that blanket with the giant pompom trim that first caught my eye, spotted in an ideabook by fellow Houzz writer Jen Jafarzadeh L’Italien of The Haystack Needle. Moroccan style has captivated me for many years now – wedding blankets, vintage Moroccan rugs, stools, and silver pendant lights all make my heart beat faster. I pored over the images of Valentina and Cassandra’s work in Elle Deco France – dreamy, isn’t it? All of the photography is by the supremely talented Gaelle Le Boulicaut. Let’s look at a bit more…

I love the look these two ladies have cultivated; a little bit French, a bit Scandinavian in its simplicity, but with the well-traveled Moroccan accents that originally drew the pair together, it’s just…perfect. Sigh. Those last photos are really making me want to break out the deep, dark paint and do an accent wall, or a whole room! And of course the tile work is to die for. Can you imagine having that ikat/diamond patterned wall in your office? Or perhaps in the kitchen, framed behind a set of floating shelves with luscious Mud ceramics lined up in neat stacks? My imagination is running away with me…

Happy weekend, my dears!! xo Laura
