Happy Saturday, my dears! Honestly, this week has been a tough one for me. One of our chicks is sick, and as new chicken-keepers, we are at a complete loss as to what to do. I’ve been searching chicken forums online and talking with other friends who have chickens, but I don’t know…please think good thoughts for my little buff brahma. Plus, I found out one of my mama friends is moving away, so basically this week has been a perfect storm of dreary weather, last-minute deadlines, and bad news – so, yes, I am happy to finally greet the weekend! Thankfully, I have a gorgeous home to share with you today, I know it’s been cheering me up, and I think you’ll like it.
I spied the home of artist Holly Wheatcroft in the new edition of Covet Garden and immediately fell head-over-heels for her style. Along with her daughters, Bridget and Claire, Holly has created an utterly pretty space filled with art and creative details. Coming from an artist’s perspective, Holly treated the house like a gallery, painting floors and walls in white and pale tones before layering in interesting textiles, furniture and objects with striking shapes, pops of color, and of course, plenty of original art on the walls. I adore everything about the living room, shown above – isn’t that column lamp incredible?
Holly’s own bedroom is wildly original, with a piece from a Victorian porch reworked into a unique headboard, a thrifted bedside table painted bright yellow, a Moroccan rug on the (pale blue!) floor, and the small painting hung low to gaze upon first thing in the morning. The eclectic pieces harmonize beautifully in a room with so much breathing space.
In another corner of the living room, Holly painted the andirons in the fireplace bright sky blue – gutsy, right? She also made that amazing Ikat bench cushion at the dining table, bringing in more of the sky blue through the fabric as well as in artwork and the glass egg on the table.
I feel there is so much to learn from a home like this, don’t you? I know I would like to approach my own decorating in a more Holly-like way, carefully curated but not precious. What do you think? Are you as inspired by this space as I am?
I am signing off for the weekend now, we are celebrating our wedding anniversary tonight, and Grandma is coming over to babysit, hooray! :) I am afraid to say I need to skip a week of my throw out 50 things project, things have just been too crazy around here – but I promise a full update next week. Until then, be well and enjoy your weekends, friends! xo Laura

I love her bedroom – the blankets and the Moroccan rug especially!

A lovely home indeed! Very inspiring for me – I’m in to blue right now, I just got a white sofa and I’m planning to try to print on fabric. Thanks for sharing!

Holly has style! Love the contrast that the layered approach brings from the colour of the furniture and ornaments to the white decor. Need to start incorporating this in my own home!
