Having Fun With Color & Pattern At Home

Good morning, friends! How was your weekend? We celebrated Easter here in a low-key way, a small egg hunt happened in the living room, out to brunch, then family time in the garden – I planted 200 peas! Oh my. I may have gotten just a bit carried away.

This morning I am feeling inspired by the exuberant color and layers of pattern shown in the homes in the spring issue of Heart Home, so I thought I would share a few favorites here. I often notice in UK design mags and even bloggers homes that people seem to have more fun with design than here in the states. There seems to be more color and pattern, and less concern about matching. I think it’s fantastic.

Some things I am loving: pink pompom trim, Cath Kidston floral prints, quirky art, fresh flowers. I admit granny crochet is not quite my style, though I love looking at it other homes. Is this your cup of tea at all? Perhaps you would like something more like this:

Nautical patterns and art feels fresh when done in whimsical, midcentury inspired prints. I think this would be just perfect for decorating a seaside cottage – or pretending your home is a seaside cottage, anyway! Ha.

You can read the full issue and learn more about these creative spaces in the spring issue of Heart Home magazine, but for now I would love to hear your thoughts on bringing a bit more fun and color into the home. To be honest, I am growing quite bored with all of the white in my home, and adding color/pattern is something of a decorating goal of mine this year. :)

Hooray for color and patterns! So intrigued by wallpaper lately, which I never thought I would be. All white reminds me too much of apartments I couldn’t do anything to.

Ah, Kayron – such a good point about white in apartments! I think you really nailed something I’ve been feeling lately – the need/desire to put my own stamp on this home, add color, wallpaper, etc., really personalize it in a way that I never could when we were renting. Thanks! xo Laura

I love colors and patterns too but have a mainly white house with lots of green accents. But in my backyard, I am in the process of making lots of pillow covers to go on my new glider bench. My 4 year old granddaughter told me I should buy rose prints for the fabric since I have so many roses in my back yard (6 climbing roses and 8 standard roses). So I found lots of different rose fabrics (I Googled “shabby chic rose fabric”), in different colors, and am going to make the pillow covers from 6 different rose fabrics, in different colors. I’m very excited. I just hope my sewing machine still works!

I LOVE this post and the lovely home pics. I am absolutely infatuated with the granny square blanket! I’ve never seen one quite like that. I think they used bulkier yarn and the result is stunning! Her home is absolutely gorgeous. You are right, so many patterns and colors!! I admit I am a color junkie! Thank you for sharing and informing me about this awesome magazine!!!!
