If you are like me, you keep a running list in your head of everything you wish for in your one-day dream kitchen. Mine includes warm butcher block counters, gorgeous hand-painted tile, open shelving, marble, a vintage-y light fixture, and definitely a big farmhouse sink. In other words, it would look something like this:
In addition to hitting everything on my wish list, this kitchen featured in the February issue of House and Home (shot by Michael Graydon and designed by Stacey Begg) inspired me to add a few things as well. I realized that I love the high contrast of black cabinetry against white walls, and brass as an accent metal. Want to know the amazing thing? All of the appliances, cabinets, and counters shown are from Ikea!
If you are doing a kitchen reno on a budget, I think Ikea is an excellent resource. But I think the whole point of that is to be able to afford a few splurges as well – that’s what makes it original and personal, don’t you agree? I love the hand-painted tile they used (from Walker Zanger), the luxe brass fittings and beautiful sink. Worthy splurges, indeed. In the magazine article, they described this look as “rustic soulful”, and I love that. Yes, I think that’s just how I want my kitchen to feel. :)
What about you? Describe your dream kitchen in the comments section, and maybe all of our wish lists can grow a bit more! xo Laura

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently actually, even started a Pinterest board!

I’d like to paint our cabinets white, with all new handles and pulls for the draws. I have black appliances, so maybe a dark rectangular tiled floor… almost slate looking maybe?, with white subway tiles as the backsplash. I’m thinking dark counters to pick up on the appliances too. I’d LOVE a farmhouse sink, but that’d definitely be a splurge I think.

My dream kitchen is actually little and cozy, with original b&w floors or hardwood, dark cabinets, white walls, big sink, and I’m actually starting to collect unique and antique dishes now! But I LOVE hand pottery for decor.Oh and a little table by a window for breakfasts and tea:)
Xoxo!
Wow, I am in LOVE with that kitchen as well! And IKEA?? Score.
My idea of a dream kitchen includes blue Mexican tiles…that is one of my absolute favorite kitchen looks.
