Spring is officially here, and I have spring fever baaad this year. I think after living through four New England winters, I finally get it. Spring is just. So. Awesome. I feel this amazing surge of energy, like I can tackle any project, and my list is growing ever longer. Last week I ordered an absurd number of seed packets to start our garden with, yesterday Bixby and I picked up all of the supplies needed to keep our baby chicks healthy and happy, and my eyes keep darting around the house making a mental list of things to paint. Oh yes, this is going to be good.
Of course there are many, many blogs I adore. I am not trying to play favorites. But you want know where I go for spring inspiration? Yvestown. It’s the online home of Yvonne Eijkenduijn, and no one can match her love of pastels, polka dots, and Cath Kidston. And no one does it better than Yvonne. There, I’ve said it. Every time she shares a peek into her home I want to faint straight away because it is so exactly the sort of thing that makes my little heart flutter. Look at that wallpaper! And the white floors! Oh my. And guess what I learned recently about Yvonne? She has chickens.
Chickens! Look at those lovely ladies. I’m not sure, but I’m guessing from my extensive chicken research that they are Buff Orpingtons, one of the varieties I have my heart set on getting. Sadly, she lost one recently, poor Annabelle. The two remaining hens are looking mighty fine though, aren’t they?
At the beginning of the year, Yvonne did something rather drastic. She deleted her archives. Yes, you read that right, after seven years of blogging, she deleted them all. Wow. I must say, I am incredibly impressed. And I understand the need to have a fresh start to make room for new inspiration. Would you ever do that? I’m not sure that I would, but check back in a few years and maybe I will feel differently.
I am, however, craving a fresh start in my own way with this blog. I am getting together a reader survey for April, when I hope to gain some input from all of you. But of course I have my own ideas as well. I’ve been slowly tinkering with the look of the blog, but I hope to afford a professional design update sometime in the next year or two. And I definitely want to make a point of creating more original photos + content, hopefully at least weekly.
And back on the decorating front, any of you who have been reading this blog for a time undoubtedly know I am obsessed with white floors. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s going to happen with this house – but I am thinking, why not paint the porch floor white? I think we could handle that this spring, and it would look so cheerful and fresh with a colorful outdoor rug on top. Or maybe pale green. Ooh, ooh – then we could also paint the chicken coop pale green, and fasten an oilcloth bunting across the front! What do you think? Any spring plans of your own? Do you have spring fever too, or is it just me?
Happy Spring, my dears! xo Laura
