Today I would like to indulge my craving for a bit of peace and quiet at home – something that rarely occurs around here anymore. : ) Even if you, like me, have little ones running about, there are still ways to infuse a feeling of calm into the home. Let’s look at a few interiors, shall we?

A creamy palette set off with crisp, black accents is a great place to start. Somehow, if everything is in black and white and cream, your belongings feel more pulled-together, even when there is a bit of a mess.

I would love to add a bit of Lucite to my home, like the smoky gray desk chair above. Lucite feels modern and grownup, but it’s unbreakable: perfect for having around young kids!

Flowers and art books are always a meaningful addition to any space. I would love to have a peaceful little spot like this to just sit when I can steal a moment for myself. Candles, inspiring art + interior books, a pot of hot tea, a vase of fragrant flowers, maybe a strand of twinkle lights, ah…
Houseboat on the Thames of Josie Curran and Barnaby Girling
I love the bedroom above, can you believe it’s on a houseboat? Wow, right? I would like to do a DIY version of the “silence” painting hung above the bed. The sheepskin beside the bed and flowing white curtains are great go-to touches for any bedroom.

More Lucite! I’ve had my eye on coffee tables like this for a while now. I have a feeling Bixby is only going to get more rambunctious for the next few years, and I’d love to have a table that’s chic yet also safe.
Norway home of Interior designer Robert Kristiansen
Moving on to the out of doors, how is this for peaceful? So simple to recreate, it looks like a basic futon covered in a pretty white quilt, but it’s the hefty lanterns and Moroccan tray table placed on the floor beside it that create the mood. And oh my, I’d give anything for a view like that!

I love this nook above because it’s so unbelievably simple. You could easily pick up a few Ikea sheepskins, and a basic white tablecloth and curtains, and voila! Hanging curtains outdoors is not done so often here, but I think it adds so much to the ambiance, don’t you? The rope detail is a nice touch.
So, what do you think? Any favorites from the images above? I’d love to hear what you think. xo Laura

I love these rooms, inside and out! The lucite chairs and tables really add to the feeling of space. And the curtains used outside are charming and dramatic.
I like the bed. I must have that colorful blanket.
I too love the look of lucite coffee tables, but I’m always concerned they would scratch easily – do you know if that’s the case?
