Good morning, dear ones! I hope you all enjoyed your weekends – did you have a long weekend where you live? My weekend was very full with Bixby’s first birthday party and then a trip to the beach on Monday. It really feels like summer here! I woke up this morning excited to share this home because I can’t wait to discuss it with you :) I read about it in the current issue of House Beautiful, so if you like it, go scoop up a copy while it’s still on the shelves! This home really inspired me because I love seeing how people handle small spaces. Challenges such as working with a small space can inspire some of the most creative decorating…plus I happen to live in a small (under 1,000 sq. ft.) home myself and I am always on the lookout for ideas to steal! Are you ready to begin our little tour? Oh good, right this way…
Interior designer Chris Barrett’s California bungalow is just over 1,000 square feet but packs in loads of classic style with a feminine twist. Her kitchen ticks off just about all of the items on my dream kitchen wish list: White tiles? Check. Light pouring in from the French doors? Check. Open shelving? Thick marble counters? Check and check!
And of course the styling helps, too! Who can resist bowls full of fresh eggs and oranges, a French press of coffee, vases of roses cut from the garden, and classic white pottery?
This little dining area looks so comfy and inviting, doesn’t it? I love that you could just as easily curl up to read a novel or a decorating book as you could entertain a few friends for dinner here. I like the symmetry of the bookcases and curtains with the little twist of having a bench on one side of the table instead of all chairs – just right.
Isn’t that a sweet little house? I love those climbing roses by the front door, the well appointed patio, and the sturdy yet feminine feel of the whole space. You can see the full tour with photography by Victoria Pearson in the July/August issue of House Beautiful; photos can also be found at Chris Barrett Design. I would love to hear what you think: is this style to your taste? What was your favorite part? Any ideas here you would love to steal for your own home?

Oh my goodness – I love the open shelving, the marble and how it’s styled. So gorgeous. Also – that white tufted headboard and all white bedding…amazing. I quickly pinned these images to Pinterest :)
LOL. Lia, I actually was thinking of you as I pulled this together because this space reminded me a little bit of the style of Amy Neunsinger’s kitchen that you featured the other day! Thanks for the pinning ;) xo Laura
such a cute place!!!! though i don’t see it as a “small” place, at least compared to my (indeed) small place :p those roses are so poetic… and that cozy backyard… oh i want one of those! hugs, twiggs
Great place! My favorites are the dining room and patio. I adore the dining room bookshelves and window seat. Built in bookshelves (or ones made to look built in) can really add elegance. I love the white bookshelves and wall, paired with the dark wood floor. The patio builds on greenery that, I assume, belongs to neighbors, giving the illusion of a larger space. The colors used are so warm and fun — greens & blues together with the pink tablecloth and red tile. Beautiful!
Ooh my copy came in the mail when I was on vacation. This space looks amazing, I can’t wait to check out the entire issue!
Yes! The “small spaces” issue is always one of my very favorites :) xo Laura
Such a beautiful home! So warm and cozy – wonderfull.
The white bedroom is incredible- from the headboard to rug to mid-century night stand (with pretty lamp & garden bouquet). (Did it mention the source of the headboard?)
