May 2011

What’s new? First steps! First sign, for “more” (see him showing off his new skill here). Eating watermelon, ice cream (just a tiny taste!), and lettuce picked from our garden.

Loves: Digging in the garden and trying to sneak handfuls of dirt into his mouth (with some success, ahem). Watching the waves crash on the beach. Playing the chase game. Having his feet tickled. Bath time.

Does NOT like: Getting scratched by Ziggy kitty. Being hot. Waiting for Mama to get him more food. Putting on/taking off pants, shirts, diapers, shoes and socks.

(I will be taking a photo of Bixby in the white armchair with his lambie each month until his second birthday)

So far… One Month Old :: Two Months Old :: Three Months Old :: Four Months Old :: Five Months Old :: Six Months Old :: Seven Months Old :: Eight Months Old :: Nine Months Old :: Ten Months Old

Surprise! Here I am, giving you a bonus post full of goodies to savor and enjoy over the long weekend :) I have been having a really lovely time so far, we are doing lots of things this weekend that spell “summer” to me: having dinner from the grill in the backyard for the first time, eating ice cream cones, relaxing in the park near our house, and sipping iced tea while reading the Jamie magazine I scooped up on Friday. Bliss.

So the first treat I have to offer is this tempting sneak peek of a new post by Leslie Shewring of A Creative Mint for her Color Me Pretty column on decor8. It is awash with gorgeous summery colors and lots of diy craft and party ideas. A few of my favorites are the painted bottles decorated with washi tape and filled with blooms, and the brag book pictured above, filled with fuji instax photographs.

Then, with Leslie’s creative painted & decorated vases still in mind, I happened to spy these pastel-painted glass jars on Kootut murut, complete with tutorial. Aren’t they lovely? Jutta used them to store her colored pencils, graphic design pens, and paint brushes, but they would be equally good as little vases of course.

And here are a few more things catching my eye this weekend:

Okay friends and readers, I am signing off now, so go enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will do the same! xoxo Laura

{this moment} – Joining Soule Mama in a Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you’re inspired to do the same, leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find and see.

Happy weekend, dear friends! xo Laura

Wow. Well I’ve had quite a day so far and I am ready for an interiors break, how about you? I felt like a terrible mama earlier when Bixby pulled a radiator cover down on top of himself when I had turned away for a moment – baby and heavy wood cover both went down, thank goodness he is fine, just a few tears. Then when we were going to leave for a play date (much anticipated by this mama all week!) Bix decides that actually, no, it’s nap time. Ah well. So here we are at home, and to take advantage of the quiet time in the house I gathered up a virtual stack of my current favorite interior images to share with you over a tall glass of iced tea :)

An old fashioned silver candelabra looks surprisingly fresh to me when placed on a large coffee table and surrounded by neat stacks of art and design books – the vases of chili peppers are fun, too!

The faded green velvet upholstery of this chair plays nicely with cream walls, crisp white trim, and simple gray rug. The modern framing of the oversized film poster and casual arrangement of pink books and flowers on the mantel adds the perfect amount of zing.

A curated collection of art prints is a nice touch above the coffee-making zone :) A fancy patterned tray and sleek table lamp take the kitchen up a notch, adding personality and warmth.

A happy writing nook with all you need to feed the creative spirit: a generous desk and comfy chair, inspiration abounding on the walls, fresh flowers, an old radio, varied textures to please the senses, and the sweetest little vintage fan to stir up a nice breeze on a hot day. And white floors never hurt ;)

Hope you are enjoying your day – we’ve almost made it to Friday and the weekend! Hooray! And it’s a long one here in the States, so I am extra excited!! See you back here tomorrow with my moment from the week, plus I may stop in for an extra post full of fun links. xo Laura

Happy Wednesday to you! Today feels like summer here for the first time this year, which is making Wednesday feel not quite so Wednesday-ish, do you know what I mean? This morning I was up early (um okay, when am I not up early? Hello, I have an 11 month old!) and the light had a golden tinge as it filtered through the leaves of the trees on our street, the air was fresh and fragrant, but a little heavy with that damp summer heat. Bix and I got out for a long walk down our favorite trail, and now while he enjoys a little siesta I am enjoying some time to myself to blog, read magazines, and browse Pinterest, which has become a total obsession of mine.

I have found Pinterest to be a great way to keep inspiration boards of material I find online, like I’ve done in the “Interior Spaces and Ideas I Love” board pictured above. But what has been a pleasant surprise to me (now months-deep into my pinning obsession) is how useful it is for gathering ideas for specific events, gifts, wish lists, and projects. And not only can I pin my own finds, but when I was looking for inspiration for Bixby’s first birthday party (coming up on June 29!!) the first thing I did was search Pinterest…

…And lo and behold, I found all sorts of creative party ideas (see my picks here), everything from birthday cake alternatives to DIY invites, themes, and photography ideas. And I love that searching Pinterest often leads me to blogs and sites that I didn’t know about before – fun! Plus, I recently discovered that there is a Lolalina page on Pinterest:

I found that when Ez mentioned that Pinterest keeps a feed of all of the images pinned from a particular source – so anytime one of you dear readers pins something from my blog to Pinterest, it gets cataloged. Pretty neat, right? If you have your own blog and want to see what is catching your readers eyes, this post will help you locate your site’s page.

Happy pinning, friends! And p.s., if you have any creative ideas for Bixby’s first birthday party, please send them my way! Thanks :) xo Laura
