From the monthly archives:

December 2010

What’s new? Babbling, two teeth, eating applesauce, and getting really good at rolling over.

Loves: Mama and Daddy, smiling at people, colorful fabric (tablecloths, shirts, etc.) any sort of paper (books, magazines, newsprint, etc.), being sung to, bath time, watching anything his kitty does.

Does NOT like: Putting on/taking off sleeves, being put down on his back, getting into his car seat, teething.

(I will be taking a photo of Bixby in the white armchair with his lambie each month until his second birthday)

So far… One Month Old :: Two Months Old :: Three Months Old :: Four Months Old :: Five Months Old

little houses {decor8}

It is the end of another year, can you believe it? I will be signing off for the next week to relax and enjoy the holidays with family, though I may pop by midweek to post Bixby’s monthly photo :) Before I go, I just wanted to take this chance to thank all of you for reading Lolalina, it means so very much to me. Each comment left, blog mention, email or tweet sent warms my heart, so thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so looking forward to starting fresh with a brand new year in my life and on the blog – what about you? Do you like that fresh-page feeling of the New Year?

Over the next week in addition to steeping myself in my favorite kind of holiday experiences (cookie-baking, snow walks, fires in the fireplace, chatting with friends…) I will also be setting goals for the coming year and making lots of lists, because hey, I am a list-maker :)

One of my favorite kinds of lists to make is a “10 Things That Make Me Happy” list – remember that column from the back page of each issue of Domino? It was a favorite of mine, for sure, and I still like making my own lists of 10 things that make me happy in my journal as a way of focusing on gratitude and the little things in life that I treasure.  In fact, the images you see in this post all come from a Pinterest board I started recently so I could have a visual record of some of these things. What about you – are you a list maker?

One big thing making me happy right now is looking forward to Bixby’s first Christmas morning!! And on that note, I will wish those of you celebrating Christmas a very merry Christmas indeed, and all of you a fun New Year! Maybe one day we will be celebrating it in Paris :D

Good morning! How are all of you doing out there in bloggy-blog land? It has been a bit quiet around here lately, and I think that many of us are busy with family and travel plans around this time of year, am I right? Are you feeling a bit stressed or are you able to enjoy yourself this time of year? I am very proud of myself for getting organized early this year (for once!) so I am enjoying myself! Today I have rounded up a selection from my personal Etsy favorites that suit my taste going into January and a fresh new year: clean neutrals, sculptural shapes, and a little bit of metallic shine to keep things fun :)

Above we have…A naturally shed antler (sadly this one sold already!) from Lackluster Co.; Faceted and tree earrings from Upper Metal Class; Wooden Wish/Goal clipboard from Decoy Lab; Hand-stitched leather baggage tag from harlex; French Bulldog portrait by Sibling Rivalrie; Log lamp from Michiko Shimada; White Paws by Sara Lagace; Birch veneer Kitchen Notes from In Haus Press.

Do you crave pale/neutrals/metallics in January as well – or?? And now that all of the shopping for others is coming to a close, is there something you wish for yourself?

Holiday Home Tour

December 22, 2010

in My Home

Come in, come in! :) I thought I would share a few pictures of my home as I get ready for the holidays – so help yourself to a hot cup of tea or apple cider, grab a cookie warm from the oven, and have a look around around. Above you can see a brand-new print by Irene Suchocki, which I spied recently on Melissa Loves and just needed to buy immediately – thanks, Melis! Also you see our tea things, including little plates that were my Grandma’s, and a black & white photograph of Ben’s Grandpa, who was a pediatrician.

We can light a fire later, but for now why don’t we warm ourselves by the twinkle lights? Hee hee :) On the mantle is not a formal arrangement, just a few things that make me smile including a painting by Jenny’s Bake Shop, a photograph by Ez, a jar full of candy canes, and a few candle holders.

Near the front door you will see this mini-clothesline I strung up to display Christmas cards and little bits of art, plus a tiny wreath I made with an embroidery hoop, based on the DIY in Gifted Magazine.

Our dining table is bare except for a pitcher of bright red winter berry branches…

…and our tree is small, but has a nice shape I think!

Well, that is all for now!! Bixby and I are off to make a pot of vegetable soup (for me) and some applesauce (for him!), so I will see you tomorrow. Thanks for coming over! xo Laura

I am already a HUGE fan of Paige Russell’s ceramics (what’s not to love about a ceramic monster truck you can fill with pencils or potted plants?) so I was super excited to see a special holiday story in the December issue of Sunset Magazine featuring Paige’s holiday decorating style (warm, sculptural, modern) as well as several easy DIY projects she created. The projects included these mod tree holiday cards, which look super easy:

As well as this cute idea for using her new line of Müzo collectibles as place cards:

There is more in the article, (including a cool idea for dot matrix-style snowflake wall art) so do go read the rest! In addition to the print copy, this story is available online at Sunset mag right here. For more Paige Russell ceramics, visit her lovely new shop and blog.
