Okay, so first off if you haven’t been reading Sweet Paul Magazine, you must go and do so right now! It is absolutely gorgeous + free, and available online right here. The Holiday issue has far too many beautiful features to list, so I am only highlighting one favorite: a lovely spread featuring tons of ideas for decorating with old family black & white photographs. You have some laying around somewhere, don’t you? I know I do, and a whole lot of good they are doing me cooped up in an old box in my basement!
I think these ideas spoke to me because they are really meaningful and also artsy :) It reminds me that the season, to me anyway, is about drawing in closer to home and taking time to treasure family, friends, and other good things!
Paul includes easy-peasy instructions for each project, from a unique family tree to gift tags, wrapping paper, calendars, and even this very modern-looking silhouette art:
What do you think? Would you try any of these projects? I personally haven’t had time yet to get to the many, many sweet little decorating ideas I have stored up…but I will be adding this to my idea file, with the hopes of trying out one or two of Paul’s projects over an upcoming weekend!
Visit Paul on his blog, and read his magazine to get all of the details on the projects featured here as well as gads of fabulous recipes (that had me drooling). Paul Lowe created Sweet Paul with his own personal funds, and if you read the magazine you know how much goes into it – so if you like what you see, why not make a little donation to support the project?

Cristina – Yay for Sweet Paul! Glad to hear you are a fan, too :) xo Laura
They all look wonderful, I especially like the gift tags. Old photographs just have some magical.
Jutta´s last [type] ..Kitchen- Before & After
Jutta – I agree, there is something wonderful about old photographs – and there is a certain mystery to b&w photos that fresh, new color photos just can’t create. Thank you so much for coming by! xo Laura
My sister and I are trying something similar. It’s not a black and white photo but we had a really heavy snowfall recently and we wrote “Happy Christmas” in it, then put a lip lamp next to it. Then we took a photo and we’re going to try to make Christmas cards using that picture. I’m not much good when it comes to craft but I’d like to do more with some of my photos. I’ve helped my sister with the odd photo book but that’s mainly been finding quotes and writing bits of prose for them.
I do really like the gift tag idea. Something nice and straighforward that not even I can mess up but still really effective.
Sorry, “lip lamp” should be “lit lamp”. Bad typing day I think. >.<
