Okay, so first off if you haven’t been reading Sweet Paul Magazine, you must go and do so right now! It is absolutely gorgeous + free, and available online right here. The Holiday issue has far too many beautiful features to list, so I am only highlighting one favorite: a lovely spread featuring tons of ideas for decorating with old family black & white photographs. You have some laying around somewhere, don’t you? I know I do, and a whole lot of good they are doing me cooped up in an old box in my basement!

I think these ideas spoke to me because they are really meaningful and also artsy :) It reminds me that the season, to me anyway, is about drawing in closer to home and taking time to treasure family, friends, and other good things!

Paul includes easy-peasy instructions for each project, from a unique family tree to gift tags, wrapping paper, calendars, and even this very modern-looking silhouette art:

What do you think? Would you try any of these projects? I personally haven’t had time yet to get to the many, many sweet little decorating ideas I have stored up…but I will be adding this to my idea file, with the hopes of trying out one or two of Paul’s projects over an upcoming weekend!
Visit Paul on his blog, and read his magazine to get all of the details on the projects featured here as well as gads of fabulous recipes (that had me drooling). Paul Lowe created Sweet Paul with his own personal funds, and if you read the magazine you know how much goes into it – so if you like what you see, why not make a little donation to support the project?

One of my favorite sources for affordable art is Jen Bekman’s expertly curated online gallery, 20X200. And today there happens to be a fantastic 20% off sale going on, so I thought it would be fun to highlight 5 of my favorite limited edition prints from the shop. Are you ready? Help yourself to a glass of wine and a nibble of cheese if you like ;) and let’s take a little gallery tour…

First stop is this photography/typography print by Shaun Sundholm. Though it was shot in Oregon it reminds me of the area of California where I rode horses growing up, so it feels really special to me.

Next we have Dandelion Clothesline, a photograph by William Lamson. I love how the light plays on the dandelions, don’t you?

Craving more city flair? How about West Forty-third Street (Yellow Cabs) by Joseph O. Holmes? I just love this aerial shot with the lined-up cabs and rooftop gardens, sigh. If you could afford it, I think this one would look especially striking really, really BIG!

Of course I was drawn to Winter Flags (East Village, New York) by Youngna Park…hello, buntings! Really though, this would be such a cheerful print to hang in your home, don’t you think?

Are you ready for dessert? ;) I love artist Kevin Cyr’s commercial truck portraits, and I am especially fond of this Hostess Cake truck.
So, which was your favorite? And if you’ve visited 20X200 before, are there any other prints you are pining for? Please share!
p.s. (for the Bixby Fan Club): Today was supposed to be Bixby’s 5 Month photo day…but unfortunately we weren’t able to get the shot, so I will be posting it tomorrow. Promise!

Hi there and happy Monday! With the holidays swiftly approaching, now is an excellent time to get out there and promote your blog or small business. I am currently looking for independent businesses, Etsy shops, and fellow bloggers interested in advertising on Lolalina during the busy holiday season and beyond. If you enjoy reading Lolalina, chances are other readers would also love to know about your blog or business! If you are interested, email me for more information and I would be happy to work with you to find an affordable ad campaign that matches your needs/budget.
Happy Holidays!!

It is only Wednesday and I am signing off for a nice long weekend because tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the States – hooray! I am looking forward to eating lots of fantastic home-cooked food with my husband’s family, taking walks, and generally unplugging from the computer for a few days in a row. I can’t wait to put on some favorite music, light candles, turn on the fairy lights, and spend time doing two of my favorite things: decorating + reading :) What will you be up to? Are you celebrating Thanksgiving?
I also just wanted to take this chance to tell you from my heart how much each one of your comments, emails, tweets, and visits mean to me. I feel so lucky to be a part of this little community, and it touches me that so many of you feel comfortable sharing your own stories, triumphs and challenges here. I know that for me, this blog is a place for creative expression but it is also a place to gather support as I make changes in my life and pursue my goals – and you all make that possible. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Have a beautiful long weekend!
