O happy day! The big excitement around here has been that Bixby is learning to roll over – I can hardly believe it. He is going to be running around before we know it! I am wrapping up early today because my dear sweet hubby will be taking Bixby out this afternoon so I can have a chance to catch up on a few things I have been meaning to get to around the house – hooray!

Later this weekend we are hoping to take a drive to our favorite nursery and load up the car with rose bushes, perennials, etc., for a fall planting project we are planning for our front yard. There is also a massive yard sale happening in my neighborhood this weekend that we might participate in – and we will certainly be browsing the other sales! What do you have in store this weekend? Anything fun?

Good morning and happy Friday to you!! This morning I was browsing through Lisa Leonard’s lovely shop, and I came across this, which made me smile:

The necklace has a sweet feather charm and a quote from Emily Dickinson, “hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul”. I think this would feel so good to wear, don’t you? And then there is this one:

So sweet + inspiring. I just love Lisa Leonard! I hope your Friday is off to a beautiful start, and I will be back later in the day with my happy weekend post!

Is it just me, or do there seem to be a lot of little ones arriving lately? Between myself, several of my best girlfriends, and a handful of other bloggers I know of who are expecting or have just welcomed babies, I have babies and baby-related shopping on the brain! I try not to overwhelm you with baby business here on Lolalina, but I thought that you might like these ideas I have gathered for special gifts. Sometimes it’s nice to think beyond the gift registry (especially when it’s a second child or if you know the parents are all set on the necessities already) and choose something handmade instead.

Above, clockwise from the top left we have: Delicious little handknit baby hats made by Dutch label bieq; hand-embroidered grow-with-me chart and a soft tee and pants with your own words or saying, both from Tiny Sprouts.
Because having tons of boxes in storage drives me completely bonkers, I am planning on passing along many of Bixby’s belongings to charity as he grows. But I am really looking forward to keeping a few favorite things from each stage. Favorite outfits, a few favorite toys, and of course handmade gifts he has been given. I think that when you can whittle down the masses of memorabilia to a smaller selection it stays special, as it should, instead of becoming just more junk in a box. It’s hard to think about it like that, but kind of true, don’t you think?

Top row: Sweet little Noonoo blanket; custom baby keepsake from Paloma’s Nest. Middle row: Bunny baby cup and Year of the Tiger spork set from beehive kitchenware. Bottom row: A special handmade bear from ClareBears; Baby’s first plate from Paloma’s Nest.
If you have a little one, I would love to hear how you handle memorabilia and heirlooms. Do you display any of it? Are you a pack-rat or a minimalist when it comes to this sort of thing?

You might recall that I am in the process of revamping my home office area. It is just a small corner near my front door (you can see it here), but I want it to be fresh and bright and clean – an inspiring place to work. There should be plenty of smart storage and just a few little handmade touches and artwork to inspire without feeling cluttered or buried in knick-knacks. One tool I have been using a lot lately to organize my inspiration for this project is Pinterest. Pinterest (if you haven’t explored it yet, you must) is a virtual pinboard tool that makes it really easy to visually organize ideas and keep track of where each item or image comes from. I love being able to test out how certain colors or pieces will work together before spending any money – and clicking around other people’s pinboards is highly addictive!

But back to my home office. So far I have been a bit of a chicken and just stuck to white ;) White desk. White computer. White walls. I picked up a small white filing cabinet and one of these white baskets that I love and had been coveting for a long time. I’ve been thinking of yellow as an accent color, but I am so indecisive about these things! I am also really drawn to this kind of wild rug that actually has a lot of pink in it. Hm. I am still playing around with ideas + colors; you can see my complete inspiration board on Pinterest right here. I would love to hear your thoughts on it so far. And I have yet to find that just-right desk chair (ahem, that I can afford), so any ideas on that front would also be greatly appreciated!

Good morning! I have absolutely no reason to be bright-eyed and fresh this morning, as I was out late attending my web design class last night and returned home to a wailing baby who hadn’t eaten while I was gone…but for some reason I just popped right out of bed this morning with a smile on my face! Go figure. Perhaps it’s because it feels good knowing that I am taking a small step to pursue a passion? Do you feel this way when you take time for yourself after work, whether it is to attend a yoga class or work on your painting or writing or whatever your personal passion may be?

I also love getting up before my little one to enjoy a hot cup of coffee curled up in my favorite chair with a soft blanket wrapped around me and the morning light streaming through the windows. Everything feels bright and fresh and hopeful, and I couldn’t wait to get started on a few blog posts for the week. Beginning with these crisp black and white prints by Therese Senneholt Design, based in Sweden.

I love her use of typography, don’t you? Her “Passionate” poster (above) cracks me up. I could see putting this above your workspace as motivation! I also love the little kärlek print – I looked it up, and kärlek means love in Swedish :)

There is much more in her shop, check it all out right here. I found this shop via the Sodapop Design Blog – thank you Caro! I hope your day is off to a good start, and I will see you back here in a little bit :)
