So far… One Month Old :: Two Months Old

I am newly obsessed with Magpie & Rye, an online shop which also has a physical location in San Francisco that I would love to visit. They carry beautiful accessories for home + body, specializing in raw materials and natural designs.

Sigh. Above are just a few of the things in the shop that have made it onto my wish list. Do you have any favorites?

p.s.: The light here was just awful yesterday, so I am still working on Bixby’s 3 month photo…I am hoping to post it later this morning!

I have been storing up a whole folder full of interior inspiration, and I thought it was about time to unload some of it here and share a few of my ideas with you. I see a bit of a theme running through my selections: plenty of white (surprise, surprise!) but with warm colors layered on in the form of textiles, handmade ceramics and art, with cozy, tactile materials like felt and wool. I am liking a little black here and there to ground things, Moroccan silver, large art propped against the wall, hits of cranberry or persimmon…

I love the idea of filling your unusable fireplace with candles, and little white twinkle lights are a must for me as soon as there is a hint of chill to the air. Do you use fairy lights? I just love hanging them near my bed or in a reading nook, because the light they cast on a dark evening is so magical.

Love these spaces: a) Cozy kitchen eating space – love the tutu lampshade! via Dalstigen; b) Sometimes I think an all-white kitchen can be too sterile, but this one is done really well. All of those Le Creuset pans lined up on the shelves make me want to get in there and start cooking! via kaarlekaarle.tumblr; c) What sweet little cushions on the bench here – I would love to have some like this at my dining table, via Helt Enkelt; d) Layered textiles on the floor and sofa/day bed add so much warmth, via trendey.

I think this bedroom is a really good example of how you can take a basic white space (white walls, wood floors, white duvet) and bring in plenty of color and texture just through accessories – I could easily see swapping out the pillows, wall hanging, and plant pot in the spring/summer with shades of lavender and lime for a completely different look. P.S.: Love the moccasins on the floor and that smooth wood doorstop!

It’s nice to make a sweep through your entire home as the seasons change, storing away things that only get used in summer and making way for your favorite autumn activities. In the fall, I love going on little impromptu picnics, picking apples at an orchard nearby, going on nature walks, curling up with my books, magazines, and hot tea or coffee along with a little treat from the bakery…what do you look forward to in the fall?

Another thing I really look forward to as the weather changes…baths! In the summer it just seems ridiculous to take a hot bath, but on those first cold nights there is nothing better. Why not take this time to buy yourself a cozy new robe or a cute pair of slippers, and tidy up your bathroom, setting out your favorite bath products on a nice little tray?

A few more little ideas I love: e) Well-loved cookbook and tea things, via Design*Sponge; f) A happy jumble of mismatched cups, via liivia s; g) Deliciously squashy felt cushions from Canvas; h) Leave it to Martha to come up with gorgeous lace pumpkins!

Whew! Well, that about does it ;) Did any of these images or ideas resonate with you? I would love to know. I hope you are having a really lovely Wednesday, dear blog friends, and I will be back a bit later today with Bixby’s three month photo…

Do you know Kiki & Polly? I am completely entranced. The work of Lisa Golightly, a Portland, Oregon-based artist, Kiki & Polly does custom portrait work as well as offering gorgeous prints and original paintings in her etsy shop.

I want so many of Lisa’s prints and paintings, it was hard to choose just four to feature here! And I would love to have a custom portrait done of Bixby :) You can see more of Kiki & Polly in the etsy shop, on the website, and on Lisa’s blog. What do you think? Are these your cup of tea?

Good morning friends!! Is your Monday off to a good start so far? Did you enjoy your weekend to the fullest? I hope so :) On Sunday afternoon I hung out in the park near my home on a blanket with my baby and hubby, enjoying the more autumnal weather with a mug of hot coffee and a fresh copy of Canadian House and Home. This month is all about fall decorating, and I found myself especially drawn to an article on decorating with felt – did you see it?

I love the soft squish of felt, don’t you? lol. Really though, such a comforting material is perfect for fall and winter. In addition to the tempting products out there to purchase, House and Home had several creative D.I.Y. projects to make with felt including felt bowls and pillows (see a video tutorial here) and wall art. See that art wall in the picture above? It’s made of simple felt shapes – pretty striking, don’t you think? I also loved the oversized apple they made and framed, but you’ll have to pick up the issue to see that ;) If you want to get your hands on some lovely felts, you can purchase designer felt in a gorgeous range of shades from The Felt Store. So what do you think? Would you try your hand at a little felt project?
