Clockwise from top left: 1. Pyramid studded belt from Madewell; 2. Steven Alan beach blankets; 3. Vintage-inspired bike from Bowery Lane Bicycles; 4. Jeans from Anthro; Ode to J.D. Salinger tote from I Miss You Already; 5. St. James sailor shirt; Tomato-red espadrilles. Espadrilles and sailor shirt found via lox papers.

In the summers, one of my favorite things to do is head down to our local city park on the spur of the moment with a bag full of goodies like cheese, fresh fruit and a baguette from the bakery on the corner, spread out on a big blanket and while away the afternoon. It’s been too hot here lately to take our brand-new bébé to the park, but I am hoping it will cool down a bit one of these weekends!

Hello friends! I have been thinking lately about what really inspires me and makes me feel good at home, and I thought today we could have a little discussion about this topic – does that sound good to you? I’ll provide plenty of eye candy and a little food for thought to get those creative juices flowing, and then I want to hear from you, okay? Oh good, let’s get started!

Taste is so personal – each of us are influenced by our backgrounds, by where and when we grew up, what books we have read, what films we have watched, the places we have traveled (and the places we dream of traveling), our jobs and friends and family…there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all decorating!

I love inspiration boards, meaningful art, buntings, good light, good organization, cozy places to curl up, and lots of books and magazines! What about you?

Does a space need to be awash in color to make you happy? Or do you feel better with white? Maybe it’s the worn finishes and stories behind old pieces and heirlooms that support you at the end of a long day…What do you always come back to when you are tearing out pictures from magazines or bookmarking websites to return to? Do you see any themes?

What is your favorite corner of your home? What do you love about your home right now? What are you craving more of? Did any of the images in this post speak to you? I know I would like to crawl right into that bed in the second from the last picture :) I would love to hear your thoughts!

Being pregnant was a great motivator: after years of procrastinating, I was finally able to choose a color to paint my bedroom – as well as purchase a pretty quilt, matching bedside tables and tackle a list of other projects as long as my arm. As the months marched on I sometimes felt as if I wasn’t making any progress, but when I finally sat back to take a breath I realized how much I was able to accomplish. From painting every single room in the house to finding tricky pieces (like bedside tables that fit a very small space and a dining set for a fraction of the cost on Craigslist), each bit has added up to create the home that I am enjoying today with my new baby. And while I still have an endless list of Things I Want To Do To My Home (because that’s just how I am), I am trying to take a moment today to enjoy these small victories:

A bedroom that feels restful and pulled together…

Fresh flowers from the farmer’s market on my lovely dining room table…

And a trio of tiny ferns in china pots in my bathroom window.

I hope that you can take a moment out of your busy Monday to stop and appreciate something you have accomplished! We all need to celebrate our small victories, am I right?

Baby Photo Shoot

July 16, 2010

in Babyland

Happy Friday, dear ones!! And can I tell you how happy I am the weekend is here? B went back to work this week, and I am so looking forward to having him around all weekend with me and the Bixby. And now that I have recovered enough to go out, I am super excited to hit the bookstore to stock up on magazines and summer reading, and take Bixby out for some first strolls around the neighborhood. I hope you have enjoyed the guest posts these past weeks – I know I have! I am “back” now, but I have to say that posting may be sporadic for a while as I adjust to new mommyhood :) But for today I have a little something fun to share with you: our first “photo shoot” with the little one (click on images to see full-size).

These all come from pages in an iphoto book that I am putting together. Don’t you just love how easy it is these days to organize digital photos and create pretty books and things in just a few minutes? I can simply order as many as I need for the grandparents, etc., and it’s so much easier than dealing with scrapbook pages!

I had such a good time shooting these pictures – Bixby was awake and alert (which is rare for him in these early weeks!), the morning light was streaming through the bedroom windows, and I spread out a clean white sheet beneath him to provide a light backdrop. And he looks awfully cute in his little blue and white striped suit if I don’t say so myself!

And in other news, I am proud to say that I have been asked to be a contributor to a brand-new aggregate blog, The Daily Brainstorm: A Blogazine to Rock Your Mind! On the site you will find a curated collection of posts from bloggers on a wide range of topics – I am so honored to be contributing alongside peeps like Danielle LaPorte of White Hot Truth, Leo Babauta of Zen Habits, Carolyn Rubenstein of A Beautiful Ripple Effect, and Gretchen Rubin of The Happiness Project – wowza, right? Go check it out!

So I am off now (back to babyland!) and I wish you the loveliest of weekends!
