June 2010

Guess what I was reading over the weekend with my morning coffee? The new issue of Lonny! While I wish I could hold the magazine in my hot little hands and flip through the glossy pages, I still appreciate the e-mag experience for what it is. So moving along to what I wanted to share today, one of my favorite articles in the June/July 2010 issue is the upstate New York home of Kate Spade co-president and creative director Deborah Lloyd. Ready for some eye candy?

Fresh, bright, cheerful and easy – I feel like I could step right into Deborah’s home, fix myself a cup of tea and settle in for the summer, don’t you? The white slipcovered furniture, hits of hot pink and fun accents like the British flags that appear throughout her home (Deborah was raised in England) strike just the right notes for me.

And that bathroom? Heaven! What I wouldn’t give for a big old claw-foot tub! And notice the slim shelves above the tub? They are lined with apothecary jars filled with Deborah’s collections of seashells and sea glass – so charming :)

This home is so inspiring to me because it is filled with little touches that are big on charm and easy on the wallet – like lining the front steps with pots of red geraniums, hanging vintage botanical prints on the walls, and tying back the curtains with thick grosgrain ribbon.

To see more of Deborah’s home go to Lonny and check out the full article – and really, you won’t want to miss anything in the issue. It is delectable from cover to cover!

Happy Monday, all!!

It’s the weekend, friends! Do you have any special plans? I’ll be going down to the farmer’s market near my house and loading up on fresh berries and flowers :) With my due date approaching next week, I just wanted to give you a heads up that when the baby decides to come I will be taking some time away from the blog – but I have been collecting some really delightful and inspiring guest posts, and I will try to prepare a few posts ahead of time myself, so you will still have goodness to look forward to each day on Lolalina. Plus, I will likely pop in with a few cute baby pictures from time to time ;) Now with that out of the way, let’s sit back and put on some music (I’m listening to this at the moment), get a glass of something yummy to drink, and have fun perusing my seven finds this week!

1. More pennants! This time on a duvet cover from Urban Outfitters.

2. An amazing handmade paper mache boat from Ann Wood.

3. Loving this thrifted home featured on Emma’s Design Blog. Notice the white floors in the kitchen + natural wood in the living room – what do you think of this? I looove white floors, and have considered doing just one room but I am unsure if it would seem weird to have just one room with white floors? Hm.

4. Adorably squashy animal pillows from Katedurkin would be equally nice in a kids room or on your sofa.

5. So cute!! Can you hear me squealing? I am squealing. Patterned suitcases and guitar cases from Pedlar’s, via Oh Joy!

6. A few of my favorite images from the always-inspiring Susannah Conway.

7. And finally, who can resist a hand-painted mug or dish from Paper Owl? Not me!

Okay lovelies, that’s it for now! I hope you each have a delightful weekend, and make some time to do something nourishing for yourself.

I’ve been having a serious thing for gingham lately – specifically, gingham in bright, fresh colors and printed on little paper goods, picnic plates, and fabrics. It seems just right for summer, don’t you think? It instantly lifts my mood! And then there are pennants…I can’t get enough of this as a motif in artwork (like the cute print I just ordered for the nursery from Fox Parade), in actual buntings, and on paper and fabric. Pennants (or buntings) have been a trend especially popular with bloggers ;) for quite some time now and I don’t see this slowing down! Oh yes, and then recently I have been keeping an eye out for cute twine and ribbon to string between two hooks or nails and make a little art wire. And I just found the perfect place to indulge in all sorts of gingham, pennants, and twine…want to see?

Olive Manna, created by Natalie Jost, is a wonderfully fresh and creative brand of textiles and paper goods, available through her shop. There are so many things I want here, but a few items really stand out: gingham wrapping paper for summer gifting, and cute melamine plates for picnics are at the top of my list!

This talented lady has also designed a range of fabrics available through Spoonflower, and guess what? There’s gingham! And pennants! And plenty of other pretty prints, too, but I have my eye on the gingham and pennants fabrics for doing a few summer sewing projects for my home!

Are you ready to go a-browsing? I am warning you, if you visit Natalie’s shop it will be hard to resist making a little purchase!

Happy mid-way through your week! Today I am introducing a new weekly series that will run on Wednesdays throughout the summer: Summer Style. Each week I will pull together a collage of things that catch my eye, with outfit ideas and handmade touches for the home. This week I was inspired by the French countryside, old farmhouses, and hot afternoons spent in the dusty shade of a big tree, sipping rosé from tiny glasses. Does that sound good to you? Oh goodie, let’s get started!

Clockwise from top left: 1. Wall decal from Shanna Murray that I am obsessed with; 2. Lovely lace earrings from White Owl; 3. Soft leather ballet flats (I so want these!!) from Luna; 4. TokyoMilk perfume; 5. Sweetest chambray dress from Ruche; 6. Silver bow bracelet from White Fly; 7. French market baskets from Sadie Olive.

Just a few little things that made me smile :) I really hope you enjoyed this first installment!

Nursery Sneak Peek

June 15, 2010

in My Home

Hi all! Well, I’ve been waiting and waiting to share pictures of the nursery because I haven’t felt like it’s “done”, but this morning I decided enough is enough and I’m just going to give you a little peek because it’s practically done! When the remaining pieces are in, I will take lots of pictures and give a proper “tour”, sound good? So for now, I hope you enjoy this little peek!

I am still waiting for some art and a lamp I ordered to arrive. I also need to hem the curtains, hang a bunting, find a rocker or glider and footstool (I’ve been looking on Craigslist, but no luck so far!), and move the little co-sleeper bassinet into our bedroom. So…what do you think so far? If you have your own little ones, was there anything you found to be essential in your nursery or home? I would love to hear about it!
