Darling Clementine

in Art

I would like to introduce you today to a design duo based in Oslo, Norway – if you are not already familiar with Darling Clementine, I think you will really enjoy dipping into their work. Darling Clementine founders Ingrid Reithaug and Tonje Holand sell their original designs – cards, prints, and totes – in their Etsy shop, and take on clients as well, producing everything from identity work to design and illustration.

I was super excited when I saw this shot of Ingrid’s home (that’s Ingrid, above), on their press page – I love seeing how creatives live at home, don’t you? And Ingrid and Tonje both look so friendly and warm, I would love to sit down with the two of them in Ingrid’s home with a pot of tea and a tray of treats :) Here is a small sampling of their design work…

Ingrid and Tonje designed this CD cover and liner for Norwegian record label Dbut Records – and this makes me want to track down the album simply because the artwork is so cute!

A yummy little stack of notebooks with fresh, graphic animal designs, made especially for 1973, and available for purchase there as well. Oh, and would you like to see a few things currently available in the Darling Clementine Etsy shop? Well, let’s see…

J’aime beaucoup Darling Clementine’s Paris cards, pictured above. They are meant to be note cards, but I think they would be adorable in little frames, or clipped to an art wire three in a row.

Check out their Etsy shop for more goodies (like the Camping cards above), and do visit the Darling Clementine website as well to learn more about their work, or to contact Ingrid & Tonje about custom design work.

I hope you enjoyed today’s feature, and I will see you back here tomorrow, hopefully with some of my own photos to share – although the light has been giving me trouble, so we’ll see! Have a lovely afternoon, friends!!

Oh my, where has the day gone? So sorry to be running late, but I promise you, now that I am ready there is plenty of gorgeousness to feast your eyes on today! I am on the hunt for a new look for my bedroom – okay, let’s be honest here, I am searching for a look for my bedroom, period! I currently have a plain duvet (with no cover), mismatched sheets (and not in a purposefully-mismatched sort of way), and zero art on the walls. It is blah. Bo-ring. The walls are bright lime green at the moment, but we will soon be repainting them soft lavender – a shade called hydrangea from Serena & Lily, if you would like to take a look :) Art will wait for another day, but for now I would like to share some of my favorite bedding finds with you, in case you are on the hunt, too!

Lovely lilac bedding from Serena & Lily – I think it’s nice to mix and match like this with a few subtle prints, a solid with some texture, and a large-scale print.

Organic summer leaf duvet from West Elm

Ruffled duvets from India Rose

This top image from Amy Butler makes me smile – the hot pink and tangerine are so cheery, and keeping the rest of the room simple and modern with a big paper lantern and white curtains really makes it work for me. And I love the pillowcase & cushion from Plover Organic below, they would be fun to mix in, don’t you think? Although for my own space, I am afraid this might be too much if we do end up going with hydrangea on the walls – what do you think? My instinct says this bedding would be best with white walls. Hm…

Detour! These two examples are not for me, per se, but I grabbed them because I love these for a boy’s room – so woodsy and refreshing, and not at all cartoony. The bear & fern sheets are from West Elm, and the bedding in the second image is from Serena & Lily, here.

Crisp celery green and pale lilac-tinged pink from Amy Butler looks so lovely together, it just screams spring and summertime to me! I think that has to be one of my favorite looks…but oh, it is hard to decide! Which are your favorites so far? And then there is this gorgeous set by DwellStudio for Target – I saw it in the store the other day and almost scooped it up right there it was so pretty (and affordable)! I am thinking of getting a set in lemon & gray for the guest bed. The subtle print on this Moroccan Tile sheet set from Anthropologie would go well with almost anything.

And finally, a sampling of cool, watery blues and greens – clockwise from the top, we have the Marina collection from Serena & Lily, bedding by Plover Organic, and the shadow play sheet set from Anthropologie.

There are still a few other small items I would like to add to my bedroom, such as artwork and a few pretty trays to hold my makeup and jewelry, but I know that once I have my bed made in fresh bedding I will feel so much better about the space. So…which are your favs? I am having such a hard time choosing!

I am having a serious case of Euro-envy today, can you relate? I apologize if you are reading this here in the States, like me, because you will likely find yourself in the same predicament – lots to covet and little cash to spend on international shipping! Sigh. But even though I cannot justify shelling out for Euro prices at the moment, I have been soaking in the design ideas and mood of these products and catalog shots that feel quite different from the companies whose catalogs end up in my mailbox. So let’s take a little mental vacation to Denmark, to the design studios of Lisbeth Dahl, shall we?

I have such a weakness for modern Moroccan style – the silver lanterns, oversize trays, floor cushions, big candles and femme pastel touches – I know this look has been all over the decorating mags for ages now, especially in Europe, but I really don’t think it shows any signs of slowing up…and frankly, if a look speaks to you, I say who cares if it’s “in” or not! I love this look because it feels so restful and cool and easy, and I don’t see myself tiring of it!

My goodness I had a hard time choosing the pieces to feature in this post! You can download the pdf catalog here if you like, and then you can drool over each item at your leisure – because there is so much more, from pretty drawer pulls and jewelry to furniture…

But I think my favorites are the small details like the silver watering can and dustpan above that elevate everyday objects to something of beauty and worth leaving out on display. I know my sweetie thinks I’m a bit nuts in this way, but it really makes a big difference to me to have each little thing in my home as aesthetically pleasing as possible ;)

If you would like to track down some of Lisbeth Dahl’s wares, you can search for webshops as well as brick-and-mortar shops around the world right here. So what do you think? Are there any other shops far, far away from your part of the world that you pine for?

Hellooo Monday!

March 29, 2010

in The Sweet Life

Before I get started today, I would love to hear – how are you feeling facing the new week? I woke up this morning feeling marvelous, and this got me to thinking about the little things I do that make a big impact on my mood and motivation come Monday morning. I had a very full, busy weekend including attending my sweet sister in-law’s gorgeous bridal shower, a 3+ hour long birth class, and lots of work on getting the nursery cleared out – but I also managed to take an hour break with my sweetie to sit and read magazines at a cafe, made a fun trip to Target for some Liberty loot, went out for ice cream sundaes, and cleared away clutter on Sunday evening to prepare for the week ahead. I went to bed feeling satisfied that I had squeezed some fun out of my weekend, and calm and centered knowing that I would awake to a fresh, clean house.

Have you noticed any weekend routines that help you feel good about Monday morning? A few more ideas would be to schedule a weekly chat or Skype with a girlfriend who lives far away, buy yourself a fresh bouquet of flowers to divide into posies for your desk and bedside, soak in a tub with fragrant essential oils, or fill one bag of items to give away if you are working on decluttering and place it in your car. I am also big on journaling, so even if I haven’t had a chance to write much during the week, I make a point of curling up in a comfy chair with my journal and a mug of tea on Sunday evening to decompress and empty my thoughts onto the page.

So, how was your weekend? Would you like to share anything you did? See a good film or have a restaurant you would like to recommend? And even if your weekend was less than ideal, or you woke up feeling a bit frazzled today, I hope you can take a moment to recenter yourself and choose one or two little things you can do today to make this week smashing ;)
