My Weekend Find

Hi! How is your week going so far? It has been very icky and dark around here lately, but I have been staying cozy inside with lots of candles and twinkle lights lit! I just wanted to pop in quickly to share with you what I picked up over the weekend while vintage-hunting in Newport – I am still waiting to have it delivered, so this is a photo of the piece while still in the shop. It is piled high with stuff here and not the clearest picture by any means, but I just couldn’t wait to share…

Ta-da! It is a mid-century Conant-Ball dresser with large mirror attached, probably designed by Russel Wright (there seems to be some debate over which furniture he designed for Conant-Ball from the 1930′s-1950′s), and it is just the perfect size and shape for our small bedroom! I am especially excited because we purchased this dresser with mirror for $350 (talked down from $599…and I have seen similar pieces go for much more on ebay, etc.), and now that takes care of one of our major furniture purchases – so I am feeling pretty good about our budget so far!

If you do happen to live in Rhode Island or nearby and dig mid-century stuff, I highly recommend making a trip to Newport Modern this weekend – the owner is moving to Florida in two weeks, so I think he is feeling more flexible on prices than usual, and the smallish shop is just crammed with good stuff.

I love it! Are you planning to paint or leave as-is? The shape is great. I love how simple and clean the lines are. Nice find!
