Hm, you may have noticed that I have been drawn to clean, uncluttered spaces lately – of course I always love these kinds of spaces, but the new year (new Decade!) has me craving order and simplicity more than ever. Are you feeling like this, too? If so, I think you will really enjoy perusing some of the lovely images in interior stylist and decorator Clair Olivia Wayman’s portfolio – I’ve selected a few below, but you can see more on her website…and I loved her logo so much, I had to show you:
Wouldn’t this make an adorable business card with scalloped edges? And I love the little hand-drawn birds flitting about, it looks very modern-Cinderella to me! Before her work as a stylist and decorator, Clair studied textile design, painting and print making, and has also worked designing upholstery fabrics. I don’t know about you, but it always sparks my interest to hear about how interior stylists got their start – there are so many different paths that arrive at this profession! Anyway, let’s move on and look at a bit of Clair’s work – you may already be familiar with her, as much of her work has appeared in Real Living Magazine based in Australia, as well as Living etc.
Are you drooling, too? Looking at the rooms Clair has styled and decorated reminds me how successful it can be to use just a few bold, colorful statements in an otherwise simple room – really effective in otherwise difficult small spaces, too! I am also seeing tons of really useful, do-able ideas in these rooms. For example:
- Wrap a super-big canvas with a bold, geometric fabric and hang it as art
- Scoop up a less-than-perfect mid-century dresser at a junk shop and repaint the sides and drawers in a vibrant color
- Use painter’s tape to guide you in painting a striped design on a wall instead of wallpaper
- Use pretty wrapping paper (or wallpaper scraps) to decoupage an inexpensive Ikea mini chest.
Okay, that’s all for now! I’m going now to photograph my home from front to back and top to bottom, so I can have some “before” photos to share with you! And just as an advance warning, these are going to be very real, unstyled, before photos! I will do my best to get them all up today because I would love to get your input over the weekend…so I can begin to take my home from “before” to a deeply satisfying and stylish after.
