Okay, so if I could teleport to any place in the world right at this moment, I would like to visit a festive winter market or holiday craft fair in Sweden or Denmark. I am dreaming of spiced cookies and mulled wine, toasty Nordic knits and traditional straw ornaments, and of course lots of twinkling lights!

Clockwise from top left: A lovely corner of home from Yvestown; Christmas market in Stockholm from gesternumdiesezeit; Straw ornaments from Ingebretsen’s; Yummy Swedish pancakes from brixton; Warm and cozy holiday cards from Cutie Pie Company; Glögg and cookies at the Christmas market in Stockholm from gesternumdiesezeit.

Clockwise from top left: Beautiful Swedish branch candle from Alan Anderson Design; Crochet snowflakes from Winter’s Moon; bottom two images from a feature Nathan Turner did for Domino Magazine - and p.s., you can see the whole article on Nathan’s website under “Press”, look for “domino Dec 2007″.
I am taking a little break from the gift guides today, but I will be back tomorrow with my guide to gift-worthy books, and on Friday with a special guide just for the little ones. Also, don’t forget to submit your wish list by this Sunday if you are interested in participating – I’ve received several already, but there is plenty of room so don’t be shy! And you certainly do not need to have a blog to participate – everyone is welcome!

I’ve had the pleasure of owning handmade snowflake mittens from this part of the world, but sadly the same displeasure after misplacing them.
I think we all get excited about the decorations, the food, traditions of this area because they seem a lot cleaner visually, less fussy. The holidays can overwhelm, yet this soothes.

Lovely. I just returned from a long weekend in Stockholm and Vaxholm and can assure that it is every bit as lovely and cozy as one can imagine. The store windows are magical; there are small Christmas Markets around every corner. I also visited a Christmas market outside of Stockholm a bit. I have been blogging about my little trip all week! I found so much to take in. I agree with Lydia. I love the simple design aesthetic of Scandinavian Christmas decorations. I lived for years in northern Germany and it is similar there as well. My favorite thing is how many candles people use in their everyday lives. The candles alone create magic.
Such a nice blog you have here! I came here through Middle Aged Diva.
Diana – ooh! I will have to go check out your blog right now. I am so jealous you were just in Stockholm!!
This is what I LOVE about the blogosphere! Cross-pollination. YES.

Oh yes, Holly! I loved the photos of the winter market you visited near your home – that’s exactly kind of the place I want to be :)
