Can you feel it? It’s the end of summer. Soon there will be a crispness to the air and the lush flowers of high summer will give way to the crackling oranges and reds of autumn. But for the moment we can relax into the rhythm of these last lazy days when it seems that all the world really wants is a little nap…
Back from Nantucket. Sipping coffee and writing to you before we go sign the papers and get the keys to a home of our own. And if you are wondering about the flag? We stepped off the ferry in Hyannis minutes before Senator Kennedy’s procession traveled to Boston. People lined the overpasses all the way.
Hello dearies! I just wanted to pop in here to check in with all of you – how is your week going? Are you still savoring the last drops of summer or are you beginning to pine for Autumn? I am sitting here in a lovely little house in Nantucket, where I am spending a few days with B and his sweet family. I will try to share some photos with you soon! For now I thought you would enjoy this photo by Kristen, aka Likings of a Girl, that I found via the sfgirlbybay flickr pool, because I think it really speaks to the end of summer mood…
I adore old signage like this, and the faded colors remind me of lazy summer afternoons spent licking popsicles and riding bikes. You can see more gorgeous photos from Likings of a Girl on flickr and on Kristen’s lovely website or Etsy, where you can purchase prints. I am off now to take a bike ride to the beach and do my best to relax after a seriously hectic weekend of packing and dealing with last-minute bank issues (arg!). On Friday, if all goes well, B and I will close escrow on our first home – and to be honest, at this point I am just so exhausted and I am really looking forward to having the home-buying crazies behind me!
I hope you are having a lovely day, and that you can find a little bit of sweetness in the present moment,
Happy weekend! I am just about ready to unplug and relax for the evening – I am going to meet B for a drink and then relax and unwind before my very busy weekend begins. We will be packing nonstop, as this is the last push before we sign the papers on our new home next Friday – and we are going to Nantucket with B’s family for a few days next week, so this really is our last chance to prepare before the move! Ack!! I have to warn you that while I will still be here posting through next week, I am planning on taking a bit of time off here and there during the moving process – I am sure you understand! Okay with that business stuff out of the way, it is time to share my favorite finds from my wanderings this week. Enjoy!
1. I love Swedish artist Anna Larsson’s clean, modern home. This makes me want white floors! Featured on Camilla Engman.
2. Soothing neutrals with intricate embellishments from Anthropologie.
5. Lisa Rupp will personalize this sweet print with the hair color, dress, and name of your choice. Love that adorable little redhead with her book and doll house!
6. I am digging the groovy teal-tights-plus-cream-shoes combo. Shoes are vintage 70′s lace up heels from one two three BAM! vintage.
7. This Matias Troncoso photograph cracks me up. I think they must have had a lot of fun doing this photo shoot! Found on Anmutig.
And would you like a little bonus? I have a total girlcrush on Australian musician Lisa Mitchell – she has a strangely beautiful voice, and her videos are really creative. Just in case you’re looking for something new to listen to ;) I found her through this guest post on decor8 by Liss of Daydream Lily.
Happy Friday, dear friends! I just noticed a little trend forming among my recent favorites – many of them are handmade by artists and crafters living in Australia, so I thought I would pull together a little roundup to share with you. Sound good? Australia is high on my list of places I would love to visit (though I have to admit, there are many, many places I want to go!!) – between the gorgeous beaches and coral reefs, vibrant cities and dramatic landscapes, I’m not sure where I would begin planning a trip! And hello, I love Australian accents! But for now, let’s have a peek at some lovely wares from Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne…
First up, we have 23rd avenue designs made by Michelle in Sydney. I love the vintage-inspired fabrics she chooses to trim her sweet little purses and button brooches, and her card designs are some of the cutest around. There is one card (not pictured) that reads “Good on ya mum” – any of you know what that means? I’m guessing it must be a typical Australian phrase? And her logo is a silhouette of a girl blowing bubbles – too cute! Go check her out here.
Next we have Vida Style, created by Melissa in Newcastle. Aren’t those cushions tempting you? She uses some really yummy fabrics, like those happy orange ducks which remind me of a vintage British print, and the pink zigzag from Rubie Green, which I love. And that Matryoshka Doll tote would make such a sweet little book bag for a child to carry to the library, don’t you think? You can visit Melissa on Etsy or her website, and peek behind the scenes at what inspires her on her blog.
Finally, we have a sweet jewelry shop by the name of Pretty Peonies based in Melbourne, which is filled with delicate, feminine styles. I adore all of the unique charms used in the jewelry: roses and tiny keys, the Eiffel tower, miniature teapots and mirrors and bows…but I am completely over the moon for that teeny tiny postcard necklace. If you can’t see the writing in the picture, it says “I love you” and there is even a little stamp carved into the brass postcard! Dreamy! You can go see more right here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this, and I’ll see you back here in a bit with Sweet Obsessions Friday!
Fiona arrived in London with a vintage suitcase and a tea tin full of treasures. She rented the flat above the Polish bakery and worked in the projection room at the movie theater around the corner. On her days off she liked to eat candy standing up in her kitchen, water her geraniums and make eyes at the boy in the coin-op laundry room.
