Would you like to indulge in a fun little daydream with me? Oh, good! Okay, get nice and comfy, grab a cup of something yummy to drink, and relax. I want you to close your eyes and imagine that you are opening your very own shop. It can contain absolutely anything and everything you adore; you have an unlimited budget and you are guaranteed to be wildly successful.

What would it look like? Would it be a tiny gem of a store or a large, airy space with lots and lots of room for all of your passions? Where would it be located? In a sleek loft, a renovated barn, a sunny storefront in a picturesque neighborhood? How would you describe the style? Let your imagination run wild…

In my dream shop I would carry beautiful handmade goods, loads of fabulous books, paper goods, fresh flowers, unique perfumes and craft supplies. There would be a cafe inside as well with a gorgeous skylight, tiled floors, and marble-topped cafe tables where I would serve high tea with beautiful cakes and tea sandwiches, wine and small plates, and host small gatherings for craft groups, book clubs, and conversational groups practicing foreign languages ~ a place where people can eat and drink and be merry, make things, laugh, and get together with dear friends :)

I would draw inspiration for the decor and layout from creative shops like Anthropologie and The Gardener in Berkeley, CA, with lots of organic elements, comfy seating and imaginative displays. A few of the makers I would love to stock (and this is just the tip of the iceberg – there are so, so many more!) would include Persephone Books, Alyssa Ettinger porcelain, Maramiki textiles, Acts of Kindness jewelry, La Pomme home decor & fairytale plush and Parrott Design Studio letterpress.

Okay, now it’s your turn ~ what would your dream shop be like? Feel free to share a description or a few links to your favorite shops/items/inspiration in the comments section; I think it would be fun to read each others ideas :)

My dream shop would be a healing space. The floors would be soft white and gray stone, the walls textured whites, and soft white loose-woven cotton curtains would cover the windows, allowing in light and a softened view of outside gardens. A fountain would softly gurgle, blending with slow and soft measured classical music. Soft chairs would face a table with books and magazines on natural healing. A private room would have a massage table covered with soft white cotton sheets, where women, men, and children could receive acupuncture. A separate room would store precious Chinese healing herbs and cooking pots.
