I came across the work of Spanish artist Ana González Prieto through her shop this morning and was immediately intrigued and wanted to find out more – her paintings are intricate and beautiful in a haunting way, hinting at stories hidden just beneath the surface. Do you want to know a bit more?
After reading through her blog (in Spanish) the best I could, I learned that Ana finds a great deal of inspiration in her collection of old black and white photographs (I imagine that the mysterious bride pictured above was inspired by one of these), and through her family history. She also uses decor magazines and her own home as inspiration for some of the elements of her work, such as the chandelier in the painting below:

Fascinated by illuminated manuscripts, Ana keeps a large collection in her studio to leaf through for inspiration; here she has woven her own story into a painting inspired by this tradition:
