Ah, parfum…such a mysterious thing. I have been thinking about perfume lately, since I gave all of my perfume away to friends when I moved to the east coast and I am in the market for a new bottle. Do you have a signature fragrance? I don’t, but those words “signature fragrance” sound pretty enchanting, don’t they? It conjures up images of Sofia Loren in glamorous black sunglasses lounging at an Italian cafe; of Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy; and of the Mademoiselle, Coco Chanel.
To explore the art and science that goes into creating an intoxicating scent, Cinquième Sens offers classes that promise to develop your sense of smell, understand “the vocabulary of fragrances”, and explore the raw ingredients that make up perfumes. Cinquième Sens began in Paris, but has since added a workshop in NYC as well – one of their classes this summer would make an excellent gift for a dear girlfriend, n’est-ce pas?
